LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Ken Horn, R-Frankenmuth, issued the following statement on Wednesday, in response to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s 2021 State of the State address:
“My biggest hope for the new year and new Legislature is that the governor is finally serious about working with the Legislature. The number one priority for the new year needs to be working together to do what’s best for the health and prosperity of our state.
“The governor and I share many of the same goals when it comes to workforce development and we’ve proven we can work together with the Going Pro program and Michigan Reconnect. I hope we can get back to that point of working together to reach an agreement on when businesses can safely invite customers to walk through their doors again.
“If the governor is serious about her 60 by 30 plan, we need to make meaningful investments in Michigan’s colleges and universities through the capital outlay process. We need to focus investments on areas that will train Michiganders in high-demand careers, so we can strengthen and diversify our workforce.
“While I share her optimism for a stronger Michigan as we move into 2021, I look toward the future with caution. This is the third State of the State where she has said she wants to work with the Legislature but her actions over the last few years have proven otherwise.”
